Having a good product description gives your shoppers all the necessary details for understanding the artwork you're selling.

This not only gives them the confidence to make a purchase, but also could boost your SEO rankings if you target the right keywords.

Lisa Camargo, CEO of Avaulte, highlights 3 key components of describing artwork:

Colors: Are they vibrant, muted, contrasting? How do they set the mood?

  • Example: "The rich blues and golds create a sense of hope and renewal."
  • Discussing the color assists with bringing out the emotion of the painting or work of art, making it more emotional for the viewer to experience.

Composition: Where does your eye go first? What’s the focal point?

  • Example: "The diagonal brushstrokes guide the viewer’s gaze toward the central figure."
  • Where the eye focuses sets the tone for how the viewer will interpret the painting or work of art.
  • Style: Abstract, figurative, minimalist? Make this accessible for non-experts.
  • Example: "The piece balances abstract expression with delicate figurative hints."
  • By describing the style of art allows the viewer to learn more about what to look for in a painting or work of art.
